Description

Join researchers, clinicians, students, community organization representatives, people living with HIV to translate research, evidence and knowledge on HIV, aging and rehabilitation!

People are aging with a potential range of physical, cognitive, mental and social health challenges associated with HIV and multi-morbidity. Rehabilitation in the context of HIV is a dynamic process including any prevention or treatment activities and services that address body impairments, activity limitations and social participations restrictions experienced by an individual. Rehabilitation services such as physical therapy and occupational therapy as well as services in community-based organizations can help address disability. Forming partnerships between the fields of HIV and gerontology; and learning from models of service delivery in countries where individuals experience similar issues related to HIV and aging is essential to addressing priorities in this emerging field.

The aim of the Forum is to facilitate knowledge transfer and exchange on HIV, aging and rehabilitation research, to establish new partnerships in HIV and aging, and to identify new and emerging research priorities in the field.

The Forum will include a series of dynamic and interactive research evidence panel sessions focused on HIV, aging and multi-morbidity, rehabilitation interventions and models of service delivery. The Forum will include people living with HIV, researchers, clinicians, and representatives from community organizations from Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States who will a) discuss the new and emerging role for rehabilitation in the context of HIV, aging and multi-morbidity, b) profile innovative models of rehabilitation service delivery, c) highlight concrete strategies for enhancing access to rehabilitation for people aging with HIV, and d) identify new and emerging research priorities in the field.
